INCLUSION SOLUTION

MOUNTAIN LIFEWORKS uses data documenting current urban-rural gaps in disability, depression, poverty and suicide rates to identify root causes and target solutions to combat the poverty-depression cycle. MOUNTAIN LIFEWORKS recognizes that data indicates depression (a mental health condition) and poverty (a cost-of-living condition) are the two primary contributing factors in over 50% of all suicides. By acknowledging socio-economic challenges can trigger or exacerbate diagnosed and undiagnosed mental illness we target the contributing factors to disrupt the poverty-depression cycle.

Right now in every state the poverty rate is higher among families with members with a disability than among families without. The average family caregiver provides 32 hours per week of unpaid care for a family member with a disability, pre-existing condition or mental health issue. With your help we can create meaningful opportunities that level economic playing fields and assist our most vulnerable neighbors overcome these disparities and live with dignity, while helping support and sustain local caregivers, professionals and organizations trying to help them.

GIVING opportunities

Did you know people with disabilities live in poverty at more than 2X the rate of those without? How about the fact that less than 50% of those suffering from depression seek treatment? At the same time the CDC and other cite poverty and depression as the two leading contributors in over 50% of all suicides. With your help we can disrupt the causes of the poverty-depression cycle and increase positive outcomes, recruit and retain needed healthcare, childcare and other critical expertise, while reducing suffering and easing strains on government resources.
