The CDC and others report depression (a mental illness) and poverty (an economic condition) are the two most common contributing factors in over 50% of all suicides. Although the majority of media attention and government funding goes to mental health systems the data indicates less than half of those suffering from mental illness seek treatment. At the same time data indicates social and economic factors can contribute to triggering or exacerbating both diagnosed and undiagnosed mental illnesses.

 

The CDC reports over 200 diagnosable mental illnesses, but social and economic problems are not mental health conditions. Different problems require different expertise and solutions. Après in Action re-imagines traditional après ski / mountain happy hours by creating a local alliance focused on balancing profitability with re-investment in community causes. The goal of Après in Action is to generate sustainable revenues from events and merchandise sales to help expand existing mental health efforts while supporting our complementary philanthropic missions.
