PTSD awareness month

PTSD affects 3.6% of the U.S. adult population or about 9 million individuals AND about 37% of those diagnosed with PTSD are classified as having severe symptoms! Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after you have been through a trauma. A trauma is a shocking and dangerous event that you see or that happens to you. PTSD can happen to anyone, including parents and caregivers, and it is not a sign of weakness.

If you were directly exposed to the trauma or injured, you are more likely to develop PTSD. Women are more likely to experience sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Men are more likely to experience accidents, combat, disaster, or to witness death or injury according to the National Center for PTSD.
