Coffee with a Cause is an ongoing data driven conversation that balances raising awareness with driving actionable solutions. Each month we discuss the latest data to identify current barriers, root causes and contributing factors of local disparities and expanding urban-rural gaps. Households below the poverty level report 70% of mental distress. Those with disabilities report frequent mental distress 5X more than those without disabilites. Poverty and unemployment are not disabiltites or mental heallth conditions. Different problems require different expertise and treatments. With a data driven approach we can deploy proven employment and small business programs that remove barriers, address inequities and disrupt triggers contributing to local mental health crisis while reducing costs to individuals, caregivers and communities.

Difficult problems cannot be solved by avoiding difficult data and conversations. Only by confronting the data with an open-minded and ongoing conversation about both the problems and solutions can we do more than talk about the data... we can act on it. It's important to recognize a balanced approach uses data first to identify needs and then to target actionable solutions. There's always plenty to talk about and something we can do!
